it’s about a 15 by 5 area that I’ll be planting in and I don’t have a tiller. Which mean’s it’s all going to be done by hand. Should I just dig big holes where I’m going to be planting stuff or do all of? I’m also going to have a little pathway going through the middle of it so the power guys can read the meter box. Thanks so much.
I’m going to be planting tomatoes, cucumbers, tons of marigolds, bell peppers (if they ever grow), and some herbs.
The tomato plants and the cucumber’s will be going up a trellis type thing, so they take up less room on the ground.

I’m putting in a veggie garden in my backyard. Do I need to till the whole area or just where I’m planting?
Ideas for unwanted garden?
We rent our house, and in the backyard, there is a large corner that has been used for a garden in the past. This summer, we do not want to plant anything- I have a toddler, am 6 months pregnant, and my husband has a herniated disc in his back- the mowing & watering will be enough yard work for me this year. But the garden has dandelions and other weeds in it, and needs some kind of care. What should I do with it? Someone suggested just mowing it, to keep it from going to seed, another suggested spraying weed/grass killer, then tilling (we don’t have a tiller to till it with, but could I just rake it after it’s all dead?)… what can we do to make the yard look nice, including this garden? TIA
Seriously? Hefty bags? I want the yard to look nice… we don’t live in no trailer park…
It IS our job to take care of the lawn, I didn’t realize that wasn’t made clear when I said that I would be mowing & watering…
We can’t just turn a garden into more lawn (permanantly) when we RENT the house… doesn’t anyone read through the questions?
Wow, kansas- that’s harsh- why would my landlord not like me as a renter, when I am trying to take care of the garden without just letting it go wild with weeds, as other renters might? The landlord wants it as a garden- I don’t know why, as I didn’t question his authority as landlord- I am just following his order that we care for the lawn, inlcluding the garden. I agree that most renters do not want to maintain a garden, but it’s not my house or my decision. When I agreed to rent the place, we agreed to care for it. It’s a large triangular shaped garden, closed off by a sidewalk- he likes that part of the yard to be delegated as garden, for the renters that would prefer to have one.
Garden Claw, Pitchfork or Shovel to cultivate or flip the dirt?
The dirt and soil in my backyard is extremely hard and uneven which is why I wanted to soften it up and even it out for planting. I admit I’m not the most experienced at gardening so I was wondering what tools should I use to accomplish this goal. Should I use a garden claw, pitchfork, shovel or renting one of those tillers? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Soaking Garden Seeds for Four Days?
We began soaking our seeds four days ago. We have not planted them yet because our tiller broke down before cultivation. Should we remove the seeds from the water and do something with them before tomorrow when we sow?
Green beans, squash, cucumber and corn.
I just put manure down for my garden how deep should I set my tiller?
I can set it from 7/8″ to 6 1/8′
Easy Tilling Ideas for Medium Sized Garden?
I have moved, and rather than rent a tiller (trying to save in any way possible) I have been taking a shovel and turning the ground. This is a quite tedious and difficult job, and was wondering if anyone had any easier ideas? Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks, and Happy Gardening!
Any ideas for removing thousands of weeds in a garden where dogs play?
As mentioned, the dogs play there, so…
No harmful chemicals, plastic probably isn’t a good idea since one of the dogs would probably chew it up.
I’d like to do this myself so hiring someone with a huge tiller isn’t really viable.
Thanks
How do I start a garden? In my yard for fruits & veggies?
I have a pretty nice spot i want to use how should I start? I’ve got a tiller and some old veggie/fruit scraps that I wanted to throw in or should I? I need help
Thanks
oops I was trying to say that I was going to use the scraps as a compost not to actually grow the food!!! sorry!! I have some seeds and I usually try to start seedlings myself but this is the first big garden I am attempting.
How do I kill grass in a spot I tilled for a garden that was normal yard grass.?
I rented a tiller and turned regular yard grass. It is a fairly large spot 30×30 or so. I started to rake it and realized what an undertaking it would be. Is there a better way? I have tarps over it but will want to plant in less than two weeks. My question is do I just use old fashioned sweat to remove the turned grass or are there any tricks? Will the tarps do anything?
What’s a good way to keep weeds out of in between the rows in a vegetable garden?
I don’t mind pulling weeds off of the rows themselves but in between them it is just too much trouble.I don’t want to mess with the tiller as that’s my hubby’s dept.Would it work to put newspaper down between the rows and put mulch on top of it?Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
How do I prepare soil for a veggie garden?
I don’t have a tiller so I’m turning it less than I should be but my question is should I be mixing peat moss and fertilizer in the soil before planting seeds? Also, If I start the seeds indoors, should I be using store bought soil or should I use soil I get from ouside?
