Rototiller won’t start?

07 Jun

My rototiller has sat for 7 years. I cleaned the carburetor, checked for spark (good). Fires-up when I put fuel in the spark plug hole.

The screw on the bottom that holds the fuel bowl to the carburetor has 3 holes, one in the end and one on each side. The holes on the side go all the way through (connect to each other), should the one on the end intersect the two side holes?

Any help is appreciated.

How should i reseed this lawn? rototiller?

05 Jun

I’m re-seeding my dads commercial property (just a long narrow stip along a sidewalk with a few trees). I can rent equiptment to do this. The lawn is far gone… It’s in the ghetto, dumped on etc. About 1/3 of it is dead and about 40% of it is weeds. Some of it has tire ruts that i cant mow over because of the irregularities.

Heres what im thinking:
Rototill the bad spots. Just blast right over the alive and dead grass, hopefully even out a few of the irreqularities. Moisten the soil, throw down seed, and be done with it (and water properly of course). It doesnt have to be terribly pretty, its commercial and in a bad area. It just has to be better than what it is!
I’ve never used a roto-tiller before, nor seeded, so ide like to hear some advice.

Can I plant and grow grass without a rototiller thing?

02 Jun

I have a LOT of spots in the back yard that need grass… right now it’s just either hard dried bare mud or there’s a big chunk of mud that seems to never dry out. I really REALLY want to plant some grass but I was told that we needed a rototiller to churn up the ground before we plant grass. There’s nobody we can borrow one from and I don’t want to spend the $$$ to rent one or buy one. Is there a way we can do this?

Also, is it better to use grass seed or to use that cotton-looking stuff??
The spots are pretty big (to me) maybe like 20 by 10.. then a bunch of patches.

Correct fuel mixture for two cycle rototiller.?

30 May

I have a 29 cc mini tiller that calls for a 48:1 fuel mixture. I mix it exactly, but engine shuts off after getting hot. It runs longer on first start and less after running awhile. Is engine shutoff sign of too rich fuel mixture. Should I use just a little less gasoline in fuel mix.

Rototiller engine slows and stalls when tines hit the ground?

24 May

I’m trying to dig a new flower bed and my rototiller is giving me problems.

It seems to work fine until I put the tines in the ground. When I do that, the engine will slow down, and if I don’t pull it up, it will eventually stall. It seems like the engine is not powerful enough to dig into the soil, but I’m sure that is not the problem, because I have used it to dig in the area before. It helps if I push the speed lever to the fastest position, and push the choke lever to the middle, but it still happens.

What could the problem be, and how do I fix it?
