Sailors-Should i bother getting the XD Harken upgrade for my Laser?

Ok, going to be buying a laser radial, very soon, and i was wondering if i should bother getting the XD package on it, i.e the tiller, rudder, downhaul, outhaul, kicker, etc.
As i’m sure you’ll be aware it is extremely expensive to fit these (in excess of £500), so if i should upgrade, which parts of the XD package make the most difference? Because i’m sure some must only make a small amount of difference?

i have a briggs and straton 5hp engine on a tiller and it wont start. When I try to start it a big fireball comes out of the muffler. i checked the valves and they were moving and the timing is good. Whats wrong?

What is the minimum age children should be to ride, with life vest, in a small, open flat boat, on a river? I recently witnessed an incident that could have easily resulted in tragedy. I passed another man in a narrow channel going in opposite direction. He made it thru channel and pulled aside to let us pass thru. The man was holding the tiller of his outboard motor AND holding a 1 year old baby. He motored into too shallow water, when the prop hit the sand, the boat seat, man and baby flipped over the back corner of the boat, into the water. The mother, who was sitting in front of boat, panicked and could not move. Before I could get my rig stopped and get into water to assist, the other man had already gotten to his feet, still holding the baby. Thankfully, he was only in about a foot of water. At what age should children be allowed to ride in a small open boat?
I guess I left out some important details. Baby WAS wearing a life jacket. I don’t know if it had a crotch strap. I was at NEAR IDLE speed, running Dead Slow, leaving no wake. The channel in the river is so narrow in one spot that two boats cannot pass simultaneously. Actually, it is due to an island in the middle. When the other boat passed thru the channel and steered over to let me in, he hit shallows of the island. “Stopping” my boat consisted of flicking my kill switch, dropping anchor or tying up to keep my boat from drifting away with MY passengers.
Can Berryman’s B-12 ruin a carb?

I have a small tiller that I rebuilt the carb on last week. I had to use Berryman’s to clean out the tubes. It started great the first couple of times but then had to be ran on full choke. It still worked for me, but I had to use Berryman’s to start it. I changed the oil yesterday, and used synthetic 5W-30, per manufacturer specs. Now it will only run a few seconds on full choke, and not at all anywhere. What is going on with it now?

I think it was manufactured sometime in the 1950’s ,It clamped to the transom of the boat and you moved the “tiller” from side to side propelling the boat I would like to find one for sell,proper name or maybe some place that manufactures them.

I tried using a pick axe but It’s killing my back and I’m getting nowhere fast with it. Should I rent a tiller from Home Depot for the day? I’ve never used one before. Are they difficult to maneuver in small areas? I would have to maneuver around existing plants and trees (it’s the area between my lawn and house). If they are, is there anything else that would be good to use that is not so back-breaking? Thanks!

I am wondering if anyone has planted grass specially made for shady areas, and if they’ve had good luck. Any special tips to make it grow better? I already know the basics, water, fertilizer.. I want a nice turf in my small backyard but I’m having trouble keeping it nice. Now’s planting time and I want to do it right. I can’t afford a tiller and I’ve already planted the grass. It’s just sprouting.
Don’t know where to get straw. What if I cover it with cut grass?

just work for myself and maybe have my brother work with me? I thought since the economy is going to Hell, and a lot of people will want to start growing their own food, and want to become more self-sufficient, that a small farm and suburban oriented garden store would be a good prospect. There isn’t a Loews or Home Depot within 15 miles of where I live. I want to sell garden seeds, live plants, bee keeping equipment, chicken raising equipt., sell and repair small engine equipt. like mowers, tiller, chainsaws, Etc. So, would this be a good idea in view of the declining economy?

my tiller stops pulling when plowing. i can push down on forward lever and hold it down and it will till. what do i need to do to correct this?
